Dr Tirtha Rana
Dr Tirtha Rana is a qualified physician (MBBS), Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition with various International courses undertaken in areas of Health policy, health system and health care planning, health economics and health care financing, health sector reform and sustainable financing, health and nutrition planning, policies, projects formulation, evaluation, research, strategic communication.
She was involved in design of second long term health plan (1997-2017), Nepal Health Sector Strategy – an agenda for reform (2004) and sector wide approach program design in Nepal and while developing Nepal Health Sector Program I and II, including keeping oversight in its implementation. She was also involved as a technical committee member while developing first Multi-sector Nutrition Plan.
She worked in Ministry of Health for 23 years, last position as Joint Secretary and Director of Health Institution and Health Manpower Development. She also worked in World Bank for 10 years as Senior health specialist and in UNFPA in Reproductive health related policy support and drafted Multi-sectoral Strategic Plan for prevention and Management of Uterine Prolapse.
She was member of HIV and AIDS and STD control Board under Ministry of Health. She also worked as a consultant to WHO, DFID, the World Bank, Oxford Policy Management and Overseas Development Institute UK in course of Nepal Health Sector Program II development in areas of Political Economy Analysis and Human Resource in Health. She worked as a first President of Nepal Anti-TB Association, in Bhaktapur district.
She has co-authored various publications while working in the World Bank in Health sector projects and for women health and child labor related issues as a member of South Asia Region of the Bank. She is involved in teaching MPHN students in Nutrition policies, and plans in Nepal and research and evaluation agenda.
She has been past Treasurer and founder member of Nepal Public Health Foundation and past president of Global Health Alliance, Nepal; and is the Vice President of Nepal Health Economics Association.
