BNMT in Duachaur, Sindhupalchowk
On the 17th May 2015, a team of BNMT was in Duachaur ward no. 5, Sindhupalchowk for situation analysis and assisting in relief materials distribution program. It was heart wrenching to find almost all houses completely destroyed by the earthquake. Many also lost their lives in the earthquake. Sindhupalchwok is one of the worst affected areas by earthquake in Nepal. So far more than 3,000 people have lost their lives and around 900 people are injured. With continuous aftershocks and approaching monsoon life is presumed to get even harder in this region.
The earthquake will have a long term effect on Duachaur and countless other villages across Nepal in the long term since the major source of income in most of the households is farming. Having lost most of their harvested and stored grains as well as cattle, villages will have a difficult time in coping with the long term effects of the earthquake.
The relief distribution program was organised jointly by the NGO – Right for Children and Freedom Matters, UK along with its local implementing partner Child Nepal with assistance by BNMT.
