Commit, Invest, Deliver: Uniting for a TB-Free Future on World TB Day 2025

March 24, 2025, on the occasion of World TB Day 2025, BNMT Nepal led impactful advocacy and community engagement activities across multiple districts, reinforcing the global theme: “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.” In collaboration with municipalities, health offices, and key partners, BNMT organized awareness rallies, interaction programs, and nutritional support initiatives in high-burden TB districts. Events included TB speech competitions in Morang, bringing together school students, TB survivors, frontline health workers, and community leaders to foster youth engagement in TB awareness.

In Banke and Bardiya, food baskets were distributed to TB survivors to address the critical link between TB and nutrition. Meanwhile, in Madhesh Province, where the TB burden remains highest, BNMT collaborated with the Health Office Mahottari and Jaleshwor Municipality to amplify awareness efforts.Hundreds of youths and communities’ members participated in a rally.

In Morang, BNMT, in collaboration with Pathari Shanischare Municipality, organized an inter-private school speech competition to raise awareness about tuberculosis, providing students with a platform to express their understanding of TB, its impact, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Similarly, students at TU Biratnagar Nursing Campus showcased their knowledge and advocacy skills during the TB Speech Competition, highlighting the crucial role of youth in combating tuberculosis. These events empowered young voices to challenge stigma, advocate for stronger TB responses, and engage in meaningful discussions on prevention, treatment, and policy. By fostering youth leadership and community involvement, the competitions reinforced the importance of sustained efforts in the fight against TB. Further strengthening its community-focused TB response, BNMT organized a candlelight vigil at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital to honor those affected by TB. Additionally, TB Club meetings in Rangeli Municipality, Morang, and Aurabani Health Post, Gadhi GP, Sunsari provided a platform for education and support for TB patients. In Rangeli, and in Biratnagar-3, TB champions led impactful TB awareness sessions with mothers’ groups and senior citizens. By sharing their personal journeys, they inspired their communities to challenge stigma and embrace early detection and treatment. Their dedication highlights the power of lived experiences in fostering awareness, breaking misconceptions, and driving collective action against tuberculosis.

At the national level, BNMT participated in the event organized by National Tuberculosis Control Center. A symbolic pledge campaign was also held at Dharahara, representing resilience and collective commitment to a TB-free Nepal.These diverse and inclusive initiatives underscore BNMT Nepal’s unwavering commitment to community-driven TB response and strengthening health systems to achieve a TB-free future in Nepal.
