International Conference on Health Economics 2025
BNMT Nepal participated in the International Conference on Health Economics, held from 11–12 December 2025 at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu. From BNMT Nepal, Health Economist and Deputy Research Manager, Anchal Thapa participated in the conference.
The conference, themed “Health Economics for Policy,” brought together national and international experts, policymakers, and researchers to discuss health financing, universal health coverage (UHC), and the use of economic evidence for health system strengthening.
Anchal delivered an in-person oral presentation in the conference, titled “What is the cost of preventing tuberculosis (TB)? A cost-effectiveness analysis of household contact tracing with TB preventive therapy in rural and urban areas of Nepal.” The study showed that providing TB preventive therapy using the 3HP regimen alongside household contact tracing is highly cost-effective in both rural and urban settings in Nepal.
As Nepal’s first health economics–focused conference, the event marked an important milestone in promoting evidence-informed decision-making. A key outcome was the adoption of the Kathmandu Declaration on Financing for Universal Health Coverage, calling for urgent health financing reforms and transparent priority-setting.
Overall, the conference strengthened BNMT Nepal’s networks, increased the visibility of its research at the national level, and contributed to organizational learning and capacity strengthening.
