Project BREAKING the stigma aims to explore the feasibility and acceptability of an alternative method to cervical cancer screening – self-sampling for HPV delivered via online /phone based platforms. The project works closely with local partners, local communities to understand their needs, drivers and barriers and develop and test service pathways. It also explores contextual barriers and opportunities to create a feasible and acceptable prototype HPV self-sampling service which addresses current barriers to cervical screening and can be delivered through a sustainable business model.

Advocacy, Networking and Resource Mobilization Manager
Saki Thapa joined BNMT in 2014. She is a core member of BNMT and works as an Advocacy, Networking and Resource Mobilization Manager at BNMT Nepal. She is responsible for project designing, and grants application and has demonstrated history of developing and implementing Tuberculosis, sexual and reproductive health and right, WASH, Mental health and health system strengthening projects in Nepal.
Saki did her MSc in Public Health from Berlin School of Public Health, Charité Universitätsmedizin, Berlin, Germany. She also holds master degree in Health care management from Pokhara University, Nepal. Her area of interest is SRHR, maternal and child health, and mental health. She is equally concerned on the increased NCD’s in the country and climate change. She is interested in generating evidences to help improve lives of both local and global communities through research.
Currently, she has taken additional responsibility of Amplify Change project, READ-It project and Breaking the Stigma Project as a project manager to improve sexual and reproductive health and right of adolescent in rural Nepal.
She is kind, responsible and honest individual, who has very positive attitude towards life and likes travelling and making friends.
SWASTIKA SHRESTHA
Research Officer, Breaking the Stigma Project
Swastika Shrestha is a graduate with a Masters degree in Global Health from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She works as Research Officer in the project, Breaking the Stigma: An alternative approach to cervical cancer screening in Nepal.
Having had a couple of years of clinical experience as a dental surgeon, she developed an interest in the field of public health after which she pursued her Masters in the same field. Her previous experience of working in university hospitals piqued her interest in research driven tasks. Her areas of interest in research revolve around infectious and non-infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health and she also likes exploring various social determinants of health. She enjoys working with and learning from people from different walks of life.
