Tuberculosis is a preventable and curable infectious disease yet kills 1.5 million people worldwide. In Nepal, around 70,000 people fall sick with TB annually, with 17,000 deaths every year.
To combat this, the World Health Organization recommends a shorter preventive treatment called 3HP, which is a key component of the Nepal National TB Control Centre (NTCC)’s 5-year strategy.
In 2022–2023, BNMT piloted 3HP in Pyuthan and Chitwan districts under the IMPACT 2 TB project, achieving a 95% treatment completion rate. The results showed that 3HP is both feasible and acceptable in rural, high-burden TB areas.
Building on this success, the project will continue to scale up 3HP, testing adult contacts of TB cases for latent TB infection and providing 3HP regimen to stop the progression to active TB.
PROJECT PERIOD: March 2025 to February 2027
Household contacts and high-risk individuals for latent TB infection, health care providers.
