Qualitative Training on Interviewing Skills for Stigma-Related Topics
From 4–5 September 2025, BNMT Nepal organized a two-day training titled “Qualitative Training on Interviewing Skills for Stigma-Related Topics” at its Central Office for members of the Research Department.
The primary objective of the training was to strengthen researchers’ psychosocial preparedness for conducting sensitive qualitative research on health conditions that are often misunderstood and highly stigmatized within the communities we work with.
The training adopted a participatory approach, combining interactive lectures, group discussions, role plays, and guided personal reflection. The first day focused on understanding psychosocial issues and applying trauma-informed interviewing approaches, while the second day emphasized self-care practices and mental well-being for researchers working in the field.
By the end of the training, participants were equipped with trauma-informed research skills, effective communication techniques, and practical self-care strategies. Researchers reported improved confidence in recognizing and responding to psychosocial challenges, enabling them to foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment during data collection. Overall, the training contributed to enhancing the quality, ethical rigor, and integrity of BNMT Nepal’s formative research on stigmatized health conditions.
