Practicum Reflections at BNMT Nepal
We are a fourth year student of Bachelors in Public Health at Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine. We recently completed our four and half month practicum at BNMT. As interns, we were involved in various field activities of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program, planning, development of monitoring and evaluation plan, designing training manuals and data management for baseline surveys (including designing database, data editing, coding, entry and analysis) of post- earthquake projects from americares and Big Lottery Fund (BLF) (with comprehensive programs on Health Facilities Reconstruction, WASH, MHPSS and DRR). We also got an opportunity to enhance our writing skills by assisting in organization’s report writings and also through development of concepts and proposals with the resource mobilization team. In addition, we conducted a learning project on dealing with academic stress among adolescent students under MHPSS program of BNMT along with the psychosocial counsellors. Moreover, BNMT included us even in the MHPSS training programs.
Throughout our entire time at BNMT, we found the organization very welcoming and supportive. The guiding and cordial nature of all the staffs at BNMT helped us learn more about the organizational behavior and functioning. We feel fortunate for having worked with the organization and the learnings we have obtained through this invaluable experience have now made us quite ready to work effectively anywhere we go after our undergraduate.
Thank you BNMT for having us here and letting us learn and apply our knowledge without hesitance. We wish the organization all the best for its future endeavors.
